I originally came for two weeks, which turned into four. I had a lot of fun working on Melissa's project. There's still a lot of work to do, and I hope to come back and see the progress of the next volunteers' work. A big thank you to Melissa, Nick, and Oncle for their good vibes. Big up to yourself, respect!

I had an amazing time at Melissas place in Mt. Horeb! My initial 2 week stay turned into 2 months and i enjoyed every moment!
Mt. Horeb is located just 40 minutes away from Mobay and surrounded by breathtaking nature, the local people were very weloming and it was a good opportunity to experience the real, authentic rural jamaica far from any tourists.
The work consisted mainly of wood work and building furniture out of recycled and natural materials (pallets, bamboo). Melissa had a clear idea of what she wanted and still left me with a lot of creative freedom on how to do it. I really enjoyed working with her and also with Nick and the other local people involved with the project. On the weekends we all would leave to explore other places, it was easy to travel by public transportation and we often would stay with friends of Melissa. All in all I had an awesome time and I met so many lovely people (locals and other workawayers) and I surely will come back someday!

I had a magical time on this workaway.
From my first interaction with Melissa even before I arrived in Jamaica, she was incredibly friendly and helpful and gave me lots of useful advice!

The location of the house itself was perfect with breathtaking views of the mountains, a very peaceful environment. I had a lot of fun sanding and varnishing furniture, working with natural materials like bamboo and painting and cleaning as well as helping out on the land. And even had a few trips into town to buy materials for the house.

Melissa also recommended places for us to go and explore at the weekend which was super kind of her!

Jamaica is a stunning island and this workaway felt like the best way to explore it properly.
Everyone at the house was lovely! And I am so grateful to Nick who was looking after us, he was very kind and helpful, and his cooking was delicious! I got on really well with the rest of the workawayers, we were like a little family. We had so much fun together and there was a lot of laughter!

I am so grateful to Melissa and her whole team for a wonderful experience! I would recommend this workaway to everyone and I am certain I wil be back soon!! Thank you again! ❤️🙏🏿

Melissa's experience was absolutely exceptional. It was a total immersion in the richness and beauty of Jamaican culture. In just 3 weeks in this corner of paradise, I fell in love with this country whose culture is so deep and complex that it's impossible to understand it without volunteering. In short, I recommend this adventure 1,000%, it's a real “coup de coeur”. A huge thank you to Melissa for her warm and generous welcome. 🥰

An Unforgettable Month in Jamaica – More Than Just a Workaway

I spent a month at this Workaway, and it truly became my home. From day one, I was welcomed into a family, not just a volunteer experience. Melissa, the heart and soul of this place, was more than a host—she was a mother, sister, and companion, ensuring we experienced the real Jamaica, far beyond any resort.

Uncle was both a father figure and the crazy fun uncle you never knew you needed always keeping us laughing and entertained.

Nick, like an older brother, took care of us, cooking incredible meals and navigating us safely through Jamaica’s wild roads.

Alex was my twin and adventure partner, making every moment unforgettable.

Alice helped us connect with the community and showed us the ropes. Junlin embraced life with fearless curiosity, while Vivi, on her first solo trip, reminded us of the excitement of new beginnings.

Over this month, I saw five towns and cities, went scuba diving, surfing, and to beach BBQs, and took wildly packed route taxis on roads with potholes big enough to swallow a car. I experienced blistering heat, monsoon rains, games by candlelight, met locals, and drank fresh coconut water. We drank rum, and smoked until sunrise, and feasted on patties, chicken feet, and kidney.

We also built furniture from recycled materials, mixed concrete floors, and made tents and painted a house.

Along the way, I met incredible travelers from around the world, each adding to the experience.

Melissa’s ambition for this place is beautiful, and I’m grateful to have played a small role in it. I wholeheartedly recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for an authentic, loving, and life-changing experience in Jamaica.
